The Passive House Planning Package is basically an excel package to assist architects and designers in designing to the Passive standard. The inputs are very detailed with a surprisingly accurate assessment of the building thermal properties. The software takes you through a variety of modules such as U values Windows Building Elements Ventilation Summer Shading Direct Electrical usage Air tightness The software differs from SAP and BER software in that the level of detail required is far greater. The standards required to meet the Passive Standard are onerous. The levels of testing to ensure that the standards are met are both physical such as air tightness and non physical in thermal testing. The modelling testing of junctions is another valuable tool to determine the best position to place elements such as widows etc.
